Definition of vitreous enamel

Vitreous enamel is a glass.

It covers metal surfaces and its glassy structure gives strength and depth to the products it protects and decorates.
Metal enamelling consists of covering a metal surface with ground coat vitreous enamels and bringing it to a temperature of at least 500°C depending on the nature of the metal. The intimate bond of the vitreous enamel to its support therefore forms a practically unalterable material.
The vitreous enamel material, which come in the form of laminates or frits, is transformed into slips (slurries) or powders to be easily applied.
